For the past 13 years, Carrie Givens has been working furiously on her pastel paintings. Especially when she discovered the incredible rich color pallet, the variety of uses pastels had to offer, and the types of paper there were to work on. She began exhibiting her paintings and has won numerous awards connected to the art groups she has memberships with.
Carrie has worked with other mediums in the past, such as watercolors, oils, ink, colored pencil, and the airbrush. For now, pastels are her medium of choice. She strives to discover the shadows, reflections, light, and atmosphere in her colorful landscapes and still life paintings.
Carrie lives in Goleta, California, on the organic farm that she and her husband have owned for the past 33 years. The farm can be a great source for inspiration, along with the fantastic landscape of the Santa Barbara area. She also loves visits to Baja California, with a truly different color palette.
Currently she is a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association, the Goleta Valley Art Association, S.C.A.P.E. (Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment), a signature member of the Pastel Society of the Gold Coast, and the Pastel Society of the West Coast. You can see her work at Gallery 113 in Santa Barbara, and at Gallery Los Olivos, in the quaint town of Los Olivos.
She has attended workshops by Richard McKinley, Kim Lordier, Janene Behl, Barbara Jahneike, and Lorenzo Chavez. She regularly attends classes with Bert Collins in Ojai, Calif. and has worked with several other instructors within the Santa Barbara community.
